Outward journey via the southern slope of Mount Siroua,
the Drâa valley, the Kem-Kem plateau (hamada).
Return via the Djebel Saghro.

Taroudant → Tamnougalt

  • Cross the southern foothills of Mount Siroua via Taliouine (saffron capital of Morocco) and Tazenacht (centre of Aït Ouazguite carpet-making)
  • Visit fortified granary of Ifri n’Imadine
  • Cross the desert on tarmac road to Drâa Valley
  • Visit Tamnougalt Kasbah
  • Spend night in Tamnougalt oasis

Tamnougalt → Tafraout,
fief of the Aït Kebbach
(Kem-Kem plateau)

  • Travel down the Drâa Valley to Tamegroute (centre of pottery production)
  • Take desert track via Aferdou (home to many women weavers)
  • Sleep in rammed-earth inn in Tafraout (fief of the Aït Kebbach)

Tafraout → Merzouga
(Erg Chebbi)

  • Take desert track to Erg Chebbi
  • Meharee (camel ride) across the dunes
  • Sleep under canvas, bivouacking in the dunes

Tamnougalt →Tafraout,
fief of the Aït Kebbach
(Kem-Kem plateau)

  • Bivouac breakfast
  • Visit Rissani souk (one of the busiest in the entire Moroccan desert)
  • Visit Cité d’Orion - contemporary architecture by Hans Vogt, in the desert near Erfoud
  • Sleep in Merzouga, lodging with a family of women weavers

Merzouga → Taroudant

  • Return to Taroudant via Alnif (a rich fossil site), arriving late in the evening

Tours run from October 1 to May 31 – summers are just too hot. Within that period, you are free to pick the dates that suit you.
A down payment of 50% of the total expedition price is payable at the time of reservation, the remainder on departure.
Price includes accommodation, food and transport.
